Just in: Tragedy Strikes in Lagos: Drunk Driver Crashes into Jogging Soldiers, Killing 4

A horrific incident occurred in Lagos on Friday when a vehicle, allegedly driven by an intoxicated driver, ran into a group of soldiers from the Myoung Barracks in Somolu.

The soldiers were on their morning jog outside the barracks when the accident happened, resulting in the loss of four lives and leaving several others injured.

According to eyewitness Priscilla, a local resident, the Toyota vehicle was traveling at high speed with three young men on board before it crashed into the soldiers.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting concerns about reckless driving and the importance of road safety measures.

Following the crash, Priscilla revealed that the three occupants attempted to flee the scene but were swiftly caught, beaten by the crowd, and their vehicle vandalized.

The eyewitness, further revealed that in the ensuing melee, one of the young men was stabbed.

She said: “The incident happened in the early hours of this morning when the soldiers were doing their monthly morning road walk when the young men rammed into the soldiers in front of the barracks.

“Four of the soldiers were dead, and many of them were seriously injured. After the incident, the boys attempted to run away but were apprehended and mercilessly beaten to a stupor while their vehicle was vandalised.

“Also, one of the boys was stabbed by the soldiers. The incident has caused panic among the residents in the area.”

The Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Olabisi Ayeni, and the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, CSP. Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached for their comments as of the time of this report.

Persecondnews recalls that the tragic incident occurred just 40 days after the launch of the Annual “Don’t Drink & Drive” Campaign by the Beer Sectoral Group and FRSC on December 19, 2024, which aimed to raise awareness about the hazards of drunk driving.
