Chelsea cruised to a 5-0 victory over Morecambe in the FA Cup third round, with Tosin Adarabioyo and Joao Felix scoring two goals each.
The match was a stark reminder of the gulf in quality between the Premier League giants and the 91st-ranked club in the English football pyramid.
Morecambe, managed by Derek Adams, had a promising start, with goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne saving a penalty from Chelsea’s £52million striker Christopher Nkunku in the first half.
However, once Tosin broke the seal with a deflected shot in the 40th minute, the floodgates opened, and Chelsea scored four more goals in the second half.
Nkunku made amends for his missed penalty by scoring the second goal, and Tosin added a third with a stunning strike from outside the box.
Felix then took center stage, scoring two beautiful goals, including a dipping shot from just inside the area.
The victory was a convincing one for Chelsea, who made 10 changes to their starting lineup and still fielded a team worth £270million.
Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, praised his team’s performance, saying that the FA Cup is an important competition and that they are treating all competitions the same way.
The victory sets up Chelsea for a potential fourth-round clash with a Premier League rival, while Morecambe can focus on their League One campaign.
