The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has given residents renewed confidence about their safety, stating that their security is the top priority of the FCT administration.
During her visit to the scene of the bomb explosion in the Kuchikuyi community, Bwari Area Council, Mahmoud emphasized that authorities are working tirelessly to ensure residents’ well-being.
Persecondnews reports that Mahmoud was accompanied to the scene by several top security and government officials, including the FCT Police Commissioner Olatunji Disu, Commander of the Guards Brigade, Brig.-Gen. A.O. Onasanya, and FCT Sector Commander of NSCDC, Mr. Olusola Odumosu.
Others are the Commander of the Naval Unit Abuja, Commodore T.S Lengaya, and Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Mr. John Gabaya, along with FCT Director of Security, Mallam Adamu Gwary.
She urged residents to remain vigilant, resist fear, and cooperate with security agencies, while also emphasizing the need for community support and solidarity during this challenging time.
Mahmoud said: “We understand the fear and concern that recent events may have caused. Please know that the authorities are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
“Investigations are underway, and heightened security measures have been implemented to prevent any further incidents.
“During this time, let us remain vigilant but not succumb to fear. Stay informed through verified sources, cooperate with security agencies, and support one another as a community.
“Our sympathies go to those affected, and we urge you to remain calm and go about your normal business.”
She emphasized the importance of being security-conscious, advising residents to foster a sense of communal living by getting to know their neighbours, which can help in identifying potential criminals and preventing crimes.
Persecondnews recalls a series of devastating terrorist attacks in Abuja, including the October 1, 2010, car bombings that killed 12 people and injured 17 during Nigeria’s 50th Independence Day celebrations.
Another notable incident occurred on August 26, 2011, when a bomb exploded in a car at the United Nations office in Abuja claiming 21 lives and injuring 73.
The city was again rocked by twin bombs at a crowded Nyanya bus station on April 14, 2014, resulting in 88 fatalities while over 200 were injured
In addition, a terrorist attack on June 25, 2014, at Emab Plaza in Wuse, Abuja, left 21 people dead and 17 injured.
