Tragedy has struck Kano State Government as Engr. Ahmad Ishaq Bunkure, the newly appointed Special Adviser on Works to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, died just a day after he was sworn in.

Bunkure, who was sworn in alongside other Special Advisers at a ceremony on Monday in Kano, had reportedly succumbed to an undisclosed sickness in Egypt on Tuesday, where he was flown to for treatment.

The death of the accomplished engineer had sent shockwaves into the Government House, leaving many in grief.

Yusuf, in a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, expressed his profound grief, describing the loss as a devastating blow to Kano, to the late adviser’s family, and to the state’s political circle.

In his heartfelt condolence message, Yusuf said, “This is a heartbreaking moment for us as a government. Engr. Bunkure was a dedicated professional whose expertise and contributions were anticipated to be pivotal in realizing our vision for development. His untimely passing leaves an irreplaceable void.”

The Governor further prayed for divine mercy upon the soul of the departed and strength for his family to bear the overwhelming loss.

Bunkure, who had only just been appointed to the influential role of Special Adviser on Works, was expected to bring invaluable expertise to the administration’s ambitious development plans.

Sources confirmed that Bunkure had been unwell prior to his appointment and was flown to Egypt for medical attention.
