The Super Falcons of Nigeria have started arriving in Angers, France, ahead of their highly anticipated international friendly match against the French women’s national team, Les Bleues, on Saturday.
The match is a crucial test for the Nigerian team as they prepare for the 13th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco next summer.
The Super Falcons’ squad includes a mix of experienced players and new faces.
Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who plays for Paris FC in France, and defender Osinachi Ohale, who plays for Pachuca Club de Futbol in Mexico, are the only two players remaining from the squad that faced Les Bleues in a friendly match in 2018.
That match ended in an 8-0 defeat for the Super Falcons, a result that equalled their biggest-ever defeats.
However, the team has shown significant improvement since then, and Saturday’s match will provide a good opportunity for them to test their skills against one of the top teams in the world.
The Super Falcons have been drawn against Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana in the group phase of the 2024 WAFCON, and the match against Les Bleues will be an important part of their preparations for the tournament.
Persecondnews reports that the team has already played two friendly matches against Algeria’s Green Ladies, winning 2-0 and 4-1, and Saturday’s match will provide another chance for them to gain valuable experience and build momentum ahead of the WAFCON.
The match against Les Bleues is scheduled to kick off at 9:30 pm French time, which is the same time as in Nigeria.
The Super Falcons will be looking to make a strong impression against one of the top teams in the world, and a good performance will be a significant boost to their confidence ahead of the WAFCON.
The Super Falcons’ squad for the match includes goalkeepers Chiamaka Nnadozie, Anderline Mgbechi, and Rachael Unachukwu.
