Amorim Admits Manchester United Will ‘Suffer’ in Short Term as He Pleads for Patience

Manchester United’s new coach, Ruben Amorim, has warned fans that the team will likely struggle in the short term as they adapt to his tactics and philosophy.

Speaking after his side’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich on Sunday, Amorim appealed for patience, stating that the team needs time to gel and improve.

The Portuguese manager acknowledged that the draw was a disappointing result but emphasized that his team is undergoing significant changes.

“I know it is frustrating for the fans, but we are changing so much in this moment, with a lot of games. We are going to suffer for a long period and try to win games; this will take time,” he said.

Amorim highlighted the need for his players to improve their understanding of his style, which he believes will take time.

“My players were thinking too much in the game; you can feel it. Not just on the ball but where they are supposed to be. It is hard because it is just two days with the team, so it’s really hard,” he explained.

The manager praised the talent of his players but noted that they need to develop a better understanding of his tactics.

“If you see the first half, you can see that they are a little bit afraid.

“Hutchinson was always in the dead space; Jonny Evans should be pressing his guy, but when we don’t have training and it’s hard to say all the reactions to the players, we had two days, so they are confused a little bit,” he said.

Amorim identified specific areas where his team needs to improve, including their physicality and high-speed running.

“We have to look at the data, understand the data, and look at that. First, we have to understand the game; we have to be so much better physically to cope with the high pressure, the volume of the high-speed running, and all these things, but we need time to work on these things,” he stated.

The manager also praised the individual talents of his players, including Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes, saying “Garna can hold the ball between lines; you can understand that by seeing the games because he’s always open, so you try to find these things.

“Bruno Fernandes improved his game by playing near the ball. So, he can give us the long pass, but you cannot put him there all the time because he wants the long pass all the time.”

Despite the draw, Amorim was pleased with his team’s performance in certain aspects.

“We could win vs Ipswich, but we could also lose if not for Onana. But we have to think and be pragmatic about the fact that these guys had two days to train and change so much,” Amorim said.

Manchester United’s draw with Ipswich marked a disappointing start to Amorim’s tenure, but the manager remains optimistic about the team’s prospects.

“We will try to find a lot of things about the players; we will need a lot of time to work out these things.”

As Amorim settles into his new role, he will be looking to improve his team’s performance and deliver results.

With a talented squad at his disposal, he will be hoping to turn things around and make a positive impact on the team’s season.
