Worried by the worsening economic situation in the country, a former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, has called on the federal government to take immediate action.

He spoke while receiving the leadership of the Campaign for Democracy and Human Rights in Minna, the Niger State capital, on Tuesday.

Abubakar noted that the hardship is getting out of control, with many struggling to afford the basic necessities of life.

He said: “The issue of transportation, fuel hikes, school fees, and lack of funds is making life difficult for everyone.”

Abubakar called for a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local governments to alleviate the economic hardships.

He wants the government to flood communities with food and sell it at lower prices.

On the proposed #Endbadgovernance protest scheduled for October 1, Abubakar stressed the need for peaceful demonstrations but warned against violence and looting.

The leader of the delegation, Comrade Abdullahi Jabi, had requested General Abubakar’s advice and support for the federal government to address the economic hardship and implement programmes that would promote citizens’ active participation in governance.
