Bayern Munich delivered a stunning 9-2 demolition of Dinamo Zagreb in the inaugural match of the Champions League’s “league phase.”

The victory marked the first time a team has scored nine goals in a single UEFA Champions League game.

Harry Kane led the charge with a hattrick of penalty kicks and an additional tap-in goal. Leon Goretzka sealed the win with a powerful header, while Michael Olise scored his first two Champions League goals.

Vincent Kompany made a remarkable debut as a Champions League coach, overseeing the largest victory in the competition’s history.

Bayern dominated the first half but allowed Dinamo Zagreb to momentarily get back into the game with consecutive goals. However, the Bavarians regained momentum and unleashed six second-half goals.

The team’s relentless attack drew comparisons to their 2020 campaign under Hansi Flick, which resulted in a sextuplet of titles, including the Champions League.

Dinamo Zagreb’s Petković opened the scoring in the 48th minute but was overshadowed by Bayern’s impressive performance.

Bayern’s Guerreiro impressed in the right-back position, filling in for injured players. Joshua Kimmich and Pavlović controlled the midfield, with Pavlović completing 100 out of 103 passes.

Jamal Musiala stole the show with sublime assists and unmatched movement. His performance drew comparisons to Neymar’s 2016 Champions League game against Celtic.

The win sets the tone for Bayern’s Champions League campaign, showcasing their attacking prowess and depth.
