The Kano State Government has slammed fresh fraud charges against former Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, his former Commissioner for Local Government, Murtala Garo, and two others.

As stated in the charge sheet, Garo, Lamin Sani, and Muhammad Takai are facing charges that include conspiring to commit a crime, breaching trust, making false statement and misappropriating funds.

The state accused them of mismanaging the 44 local governments’s statutory allocations remitted to the State Joint LGs account from the Federation account.

The charge sheet alleges that the defendants illegally diverted N57.4 billion through various personal accounts of LG cashiers, as well as other personal and corporate accounts, for their own benefit.

The state government also accused them of transferring the funds into dollars for their personal benefits.

Additionally, the state alleges that the defendants illegally acquired several high-value properties, including a service apartment on Murtala Muhammad Way, a commercial apartment in Dubai’s Akoya Oxygen, a luxury apartment in Damac Heights, Marsa Dubai Marina, and a multi-billion naira hotel in Jabi, Abuja.

Others are filling stations on Gwarzo Road Kano, Eastern Bypass Kano.

Persecondnews reports that the state is expected to call 143 witnesses.

No date has been fixed for the hearing of the case.

Persecondnews recalls that on April 4, the state government initiated a lawsuit against Ganduje, his wife Mrs. Hafsat Umar, and six other defendants, including his son Mr. Umar Abdullahi Umar, Mr. Abubakar Bawuro, Mr. Jibrilla Muhammad, and three companies: Lamash Properties Ltd., Safari Textiles Ltd., and Lesage General Enterprises, in the Kano High Court.

According to another charge filed on July 16, with case number K/143c/24, the Kano state government charged Ganduje and former Commissioner for Justice Mr. Musa Lawan with criminal conspiracy, misappropriation of funds and abuse of office.
