The Bloggers and Vloggers Content Creators Association (BAVCCA) has unanimously endorsed Dr. Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), for his leadership with a vote of confidence.

The group praised Kyari’s initiatives to foster transparency and accountability within NNPCL, deeming them not only commendable but crucial for driving Nigeria’s progress and development.

Dr. Stein Uguru, Director of BAVCCA, made the remarks during the organization’s national convention held on Monday in Abuja with the theme, “Fostering Public Trust: Bridging the Gap between NNPCL, Civil Society, Bloggers, and the General Public.”

Uguru said: “Under Dr. Kyari’s stewardship, NNPCL has made significant strides in the area of transparency and accountability.

“One of its most remarkable initiatives is the TAPE (Transparency, Accountability, and Performance Excellence) program.

“This blueprint has set a new standard for corporate governance within NNPCL, promoting openness and ethical practices.

“A significant milestone achieved under the TAPE initiative is the regular publication of NNPCL’s audited financial statements.

“This move is unprecedented in the history of the corporation and serves as a testament to Dr. Kyari’s commitment to transparency.

“By making these financial statements publicly accessible, NNPCL has taken a bold step towards fostering trust and confidence among stakeholders, including the public, investors, and international partners.

“The continuous publication of the company’s Monthly Financial and Operations Reports (MFOR) is another laudable achievement.

“This practice places NNPCL in a unique position globally as the only national oil company that publishes its financial and operations reports on a monthly basis.

“Such transparency not only enhances accountability but also provides valuable insights into NNPCL’s activities, performance, and strategic direction.

“Dr. Kyari’s tenure has also been marked by strategic investments aimed at boosting Nigeria’s oil and gas production capabilities and enhancing national development.

“For instance, the increase in national crude oil reserves to achieve the 40,000 billion barrel target is a testament to his focused and visionary leadership.”

Uguru added: “By pushing exploration work in various basins and drilling new wells, such as the Kolmano River II & III wells, and seismic data collection in the Bida and Sokoto Basins, Dr. Kyari has significantly contributed to securing Nigeria’s energy future.

“Additionally, the development of the Bonga South-East Field and the peaceful resolution of the deep offshore block, OML 118, for a future investment worth N10 billion highlight the importance of strategic negotiations and partnerships.

“These efforts not only enhance oil production but also attract valuable investments into the country, further solidifying NNPCL’s role as a key player in the global energy market.”

Alhaji Muhammed Yusuf, the President of the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (COCSO), also praised Dr. Kyari’s visionary ‘Decade of Gas’ initiative, which seeks to reduce the economic burden of petrol imports by rapidly expanding Nigeria’s gas sector through significant investments and strategic development.

Yusuf credited Kyari’s innovative leadership and unrelenting commitment for driving profound transformations within the NNPCL, revolutionizing its operations, and setting a new standard for excellence.

He said: “A key milestone is the NLNG Train 7 project, poised to generate over $20 billion in government revenue and create 50,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly.

“Dr. Kyari has spearheaded negotiations to increase production to a target of three million barrels daily.

“He has also successfully managed production shortages and addressed sabotage issues, ensuring a steady and reliable supply of this vital resource.

“The commissioning of the Oredo Integrated Gas Handling Facility and the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Storage and Dispensing Unit has significantly increased the domestic supply of gas and cooking fuel.

“Under Dr. Kyari’s leadership, the NNPCL has also secured alternative funding facilities for the NPDC and joint venture projects, facilitating further development of assets.

“This includes the $3.15 billion Alternative Financing Package with Sterling Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO) and other partners for the development of NPDC’s OML 13.”

Yusuf announced that they have overwhelmingly expressed their confidence in Dr. Kyari and his team, applauding their tireless efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and exceptional performance at NNPC Ltd., a vital national asset.

Mr. Francis Ngene, representing Nigeria Legal Professionals for Good Governance (NLPGG), lauded the revolutionary strides made by NNPC Ltd.

He noted that as advocates for good governance, transparency, and public interest, they have been keenly observing the positive changes under Dr. Kyari’s visionary leadership.

He said: “We are thoroughly impressed by the groundbreaking reforms Dr. Kyari has initiated, which have brought about a profound and lasting impact on the Nigerian oil and gas sector.

“Upon assuming leadership of the NNPCL, Dr. Kyari inherited an organization beset by numerous challenges, including financial turmoil, operational inefficiencies, and a crisis of public confidence.

“Under Dr. Kyari’s visionary leadership, steadfast dedication, and expert strategic guidance, the NNPCL has undergone a remarkable transformation, emerging as a beacon of success and a testament to the power of effective leadership and a positive organizational culture.

“Dr. Kyari’s exemplary leadership has achieved outstanding operational efficiency, driving the NNPCL’s transformation through asset optimization, cost-effective measures, and agile decision-making.

“This strategic approach has yielded consistent profitability, generating substantial revenue for the Nigerian government and facilitating investments in vital infrastructure and social development initiatives.

“His focus on efficiency has led to optimized assets, cost savings, and streamlined processes, resulting in consistent profitability and significant contributions to Nigeria’s revenue and development projects.

“We are alarmed and dismayed to discover that an anonymous group of legal professionals has been making unjustified criticisms against Dr. Kyari’s commendable achievements.

“We suspect that these unfounded attacks are fueled by ulterior motives or political interests and do not represent the genuine views of the Nigerian legal community.

“We stand in solidarity with Dr. Kyari and NNPCL and invite all Nigerians, especially fellow legal professionals, to celebrate his remarkable leadership and the positive difference he’s made in our country.”

Representatives from three regional groups—Ohaneze Ndigbo Professionals for Peace and Development, Oduduwa Democratic Frontiers, and North Central Young Professionals Forum—were also in attendance, and they collectively expressed their confidence in Dr. Kyari’s leadership.
