Senate President Godswill Akpabio unreservedly tendered an apology to Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Tuesday over the nightclub comment he made to correct her while making a contribution on the floor of the hallowed chambers.

He said he would never intentionally belittle a woman. Persecondnews recalls that on July 18, Akpabio had asked the woman to follow the established protocol by getting permission to speak, saying this is not a nightclub and insisting that there is order in the Senate.

The comment had sparked outrage on social media and among Nigerians.

Akpabio said: “I will not intentionally denigrate any woman, and I always pray that God will uplift women.

“Distinguished Senator Natasaha, I want to apologise to you… I felt I should tender a public apology to you. I do not mean any harm.”

The Senate President also said he noted social media’s influence and cautioned critics to be careful with their words.

“The interest shown in the social media shows that we have enemies… People should concentrate on things that will move this country forward.

“Social media handlers should practice with decorum. We won’t, out of anger, regulate social media.”

According to Persecondnews, Akpabio’s public apology to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan demonstrates his commitment to respect and equity in the Senate.

His call for constructive dialogue highlights his dedication to maintaining decorum and advancing the country’s progress.
