President Bola Tinubu, along with other world leaders, expressed support for former United States President Donald Trump and denounced the assassination attempt on the Republican candidate during a Pennsylvania campaign rally on Saturday.

Persecondnews reports that a bullet pierced Trump’s right ear and killed one bystander. Two other spectators were critically wounded.

The US Secret Service said it shot the suspected assailant dead.

Following gunshots, the Secret Service swiftly escorted Trump off the stage after he suffered a minor injury during the attack.

In a terse statement via his official X handle on Sunday, Tinubu described the assassination attempt as distasteful, stating that it goes beyond the pale of democratic norms.

Tinubu also commiserated with the family of the deceased and those injured during the incident.

He wrote, “The attack on former President Donald Trump is distasteful and goes beyond the pale of democratic norms. Violence has no place in democracy.

“I extend my sympathies to the former president and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery.

“Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.”

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said on social media platform X that it was “distressing” to witness Trump being shot while speaking at a rally and to hear an attendee had died.

“This is a tragedy for the democratic world,” he said.

President Javier Milei blamed the “international left” for what he called a “cowardly assassination attempt.”

“In panic of losing at the polls, they resort to terrorism to impose their backward and authoritarian agenda,” said the populist president.

China’s President Xi Jinping expressed his “compassion and sympathy” to Trump, a spokesman said, following the assassination attempt.

“China is closely following the situation surrounding the shooting of former President Donald Trump,” a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement.
