Nigeria’s dominance at the ongoing African Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon, was in full swing, with Team Nigeria topping the medal table.

Persecondnews reports that after Day 1 of the 2024 African Championships, Nigeria tops the table with two gold medals from the three finals concluded on Friday.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, fresh off his fourth consecutive national title win in Benin City, delivered Nigeria’s first gold medal.

Enekwechi has never lost a championship in Africa since 2018, when he won on home soil in Asaba. He remains dominant on the continent.

Enekwechi threw a championship record of 21.22 m in his final attempt to win his third consecutive African title.

Enekwechi’s golden performance ties him for the most shot put gold medals by a male athlete in the Championships’ history.

He joins the ranks of legendary throwers like Egypt’s Ahmed Mohamed Ashoush (1984, 1985, and 1988) and Burger Lambrechts (1998, 2010, and 2012), who also dominated the event with three consecutive victories.
