Persecondnews has inducted journalists in training from tertiary institutions for the first batch of its 2024 internship program, aimed at upscaling their skills in readiness for employment in the media industry.
The internship program is in line with global best practice, which places interns on par with their peers in various top media firms in Nigeria and Africa to gain industry experience over a period of time.
Mr. Ayodele Akinsola, Managing Director of Persecondnews, described the program as a critical intervention in bridging the industry’s manpower gap and enhancing local capacity.
Akinsola urged the new interns to “take advantage of and leverage the opportunities Persecondnews is offering them and put into practice the theories you have learnt in school.
“Take every task seriously; invest your best efforts to maximize every field opportunity.”
He said the program is part of efforts to mentor future journalists and media professionals.
Mrs. Blessing Adodo, General Manager, Business Relations, stated in her remarks during the induction ceremony that the program’s objectives are to give young interns the opportunity to have on-the-job training in their respective disciplines, thereby enhancing their employability.
She noted that “the Persecondnews internship scheme’s success has gone beyond the shores of Nigeria.”
“Every year, the scheme supports fresh talent through exposure to rich technical on-the-job work experience to equip them with practical industry experience, which will then position them favourably for employment opportunities after the program.”
