Wike-Gov. Fubara standoff: My position – Rotimi Amaechi

The former Minister of Transportation, Amaechi, attributed Governor Fubara's rising popularity to the public outrage that has greeted Wike's actions.

Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State, has declared his neutrality in the state’s political crisis, refusing to back either incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara or his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

Amaechi made this declaration while he visited Mr. Okorinama West, a chieftain of the APC, at his residence in Port Harcourt on Friday.

Persecondnews recalls that Fubara and his estranged godfather, Wike, are locked in battle over the control of the political structure of the state since Fubara took office on May 29, 2023.

Pro-Wike lawmakers had threatened to impeach the governor, but such moves were twarted by him.

President Bola Tinubu brokered peace by inviting both parties to the Presidential Villa.

The former Minister of Transportation, Amaechi, attributed Governor Fubara’s rising popularity to the public outrage that has greeted Wike’s actions.

On the political landscape in Rivers State, he noted that some former allies were defecting to other camps driven by self-interest.

He urged youths to be more proactive in determining the state’s political future.

He said: “I can’t stand and join either Sim or Wike. I will not join Sim, nor will I join Wike.

“But don’t forget, they are not big without you people; I hope you know that.”

Amaechi noted that because the people were tired of Wike, the governor was becoming more popular.

“That is his popularity, not that Sim is the best man on earth. It is because he is anti-Wike and because the state is tired of Wike.”
