The National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has urged service and voluntary organizations to join forces with the agency in the fight against drug abuse and other social vices to save the nation’s youths’ future.

She said that as an organization that promotes good citizenship, particularly among youths, it has become imperative to enlist in the war to rid the nation of drugs, Persecondnews reports.

Ogun State Commander of the agency, Mrs. Ibiba Jane Odili made the call as the keynote speaker at the charter presentation of the Ogun Sapphire Lions Club at Senator Ibikunle Amosu Hall at African Church Grammar School, Ita-Iyalode, Abeokuta, at the weekend.

She advised members to focus on the club’s core values, which include the fight against drug abuse, the pursuit of vision, feeding the poor, youth empowerment, and caring for the environment, among others.

Odili also urged them to imbibe the spirit of service to humanity as part of the club’s core values.

“I urge you to engage in intervention programmes, especially on drug abuse and other vices.

“Empowerment programmes are also important. For example, you can train people in sewing, give them sewing machines and grinding machines to women in the community; and encourage them to warn their children against drugs.

“Some of these people and their children are involved in drugs,” she said.

In her speech shortly after her inauguration, Omolabake expressed her readiness to serve the club with commitment and total dedication, as well as use her wealth of experience from over 11 years at Lions Club.

She lauded the efforts of the pioneer District Governor, Otunba Olayiwola Fadairo, in chartering the Ogun Sapphire Lions Club.

The secretary of the club, Olujimi Olanrewaju, who expressed confidence in the new leadership of the club, restated the club’s commitment to humanitarian service in the various communities in the state.

He promised interventions in the areas of provision of water, health, and returning out-of-school children to school, among others.
