International friendly: Nigeria pip Ghana 2-1 in Marrakech, Morocco

954

The battle on the football pitch in Marrakech, Morocco, ended on Friday evening with Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeating the Black Stars of Ghana 2-1.

The Finidi George-led team was superb in transition, with the Super Eagles causing Ghana problems in their defence.

The consistency of the Eagles’ pressing resulted in a penalty, and Cyriel Dessers converted the spot kick to give Nigeria the lead in the 38th minute.

Ademola Lookman scored within less than 10 minutes of coming on the pitch.

The Nigerian side broke through the Ghanaian back line with ease, capping a smooth transition from defence to attack in seconds with a Lookman trademark finish in the 84th minute.

The goal increased the Super Eagles advantage in the encounter and secured victory for the team.

Jordan Ayew scored from the penalty spot in the 95th minute, but it was a case of “too little, too late.”

George, who is among the top contenders for the vacant Super Eagles handler position, transformed the team from a pragmatic to a more adventurous one.

His 3-4-3 tactical formation and high press in the game gave the Super Eagles the edge in the encounter.

In the middle of the pack, Ndidi and Onyeka’s partnership gave the team more balance defensively and more impetus to transit from defence to attack in seconds, moving the ball beautifully on the grass of the stade de Marrekach in Morocco.
