“I will leave the club at the end of the season. I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment when you hear it for the first time”
Jurgen Klopp will depart his post as Liverpool manager at the end of the season.
Klopp, in a video posted on the official X handle of the club, which has gotten over 11 million views, made it known that he is “running out of energy” and he cannot do the “job again.
“Record-breaking Klopp is the only manager in Liverpool’s history to win the top-flight league title, the European Cup/UEFA Champions League, the EFL Cup, and the FA Cup.
The German joined the club in 2015 and resurrected the sleeping fortunes of Liverpool with the introduction of “Gegen Press,” which is derived from the German word for “counter pressing.”
Klopp is regarded as the high priest of “Gegen Press,” with his team modelled to be on the front foot, seeking to win the ball back as soon as they lose it, rather than sitting back and allowing the opposition to have possession.
This tactical masterpiece from Klopp made him a fan favourite, and he turned Liverpool from title pretenders to contenders, impressing first on the European stage with a victory over Tottenham in the 2019 Champions League Final.
The elusive Premier League was ended after a 30-year wait for a 19th top-flight title.
The Premier League trophy was sealed in grand style, with seven games still to play in the 2019–2020 season.
A visibly emotional Klopp in the video said: I will leave the club at the end of the season. I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it.
“I love absolutely everything about this club; I love everything about the city; I love everything about our supporters; I love the team.
“I love the staff; I love everything. That I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it’s the one I have to take; it is that I am running out of energy; I have no problem now; obviously, I think I know it already for longer that I will have to announce that at one point.
“But I am absolutely fine now, but I also know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again, and after all the years we had together, after all the time we spent together, and all the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you, and the least thing I owe you is the truth.
“Liverpool are on course to win a second league title this campaign and currently sit at the top of the table, five points ahead of champions Manchester City.
The Reds are also in contention to win the Carabao Cup after making it to the final with a win over Fulham in the semis last time out.
