The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Tajudeen Abbas, has assured Nigerians of their participation in the budgeting process and eventual approval of the 2024 budget of “Renewed Hope Agenda” for transparency and accountability.

The Speaker said this while giving his vote of thanks after the presentation of the 2024 Appropriation Bill by President Bola Tinubu.

Abbas said the collaborative effort is an initiative aimed at improving transparency and facilitate a more effective and efficient use and deployment of public resources.

“In order to establish public support, the House of Representatives will convene the first national citizens’ budget town hall meetings to harness public input and opinions on this budget.

“We are convinced that this will increase transparency and accountability, improve policy making and increase trust in government.

“Public participation in the budgetary process has been shown to improve resource allocation and service delivery as well as a more stable and robust economy.

“By seeking input from citizens we aim to understand their local needs and preferences better and allocate resources more effectively,” the speaker said.

Abbas promised that the National Assembly, alongside Nigerians, will “diligently scrutinize the budget” to ensure that when it is passed it will address the needs of all Nigerians.
