Just in: Blackout envelopes Nigeria as national electricity grid collapses on Thursday morning

A nationwide power outage has hit the country following the collapse of the national grid in Osogbo, Osun State, in the early hours of Thursday.

The grid being run by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), collapsed to an all-time low of 273 megawatts of electricity coming from two out of the over 27 electricity generation.

Persecondnews recalls that last week TCN had celebrated what it called “400 days of stability in the grid system.

Distribution Companies (Discos)) confirmed that most of their feeders were out as at 1.00am on Thursday, September 14.

As of 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, five generating plants were on the grid. Afam VI had 0.70MW, Dadinkowa was generating 0.00MW, Ibom Power had 32.90MW, Jebba had 240MW and Olorunsogo was on the grid with zero generation.
