NFF set to reward Waldrum new one-year deal

1.1k

Contrary to reports making the rounds that Super Falcons Coach Randy Waldrum was sacked, Persecondnews authoritatively reports that the American has begun new contract negotiations with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The Nigerian Football Technical Committee, acting on resolutions reached at the NFF executive committee meeting in Uyo on Sunday, has initiated contact with Waldrum negotiating terms for a possible one-year contract renewal.

Reliable source from the Glass House, who spoke to Persecondnews on condition of anonymity said the report flying round is fake and just mere rumors.

He said the Federation is pleased with the new mentality instilled by America on the girls and the President of NFF is happy with their outing at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand last month.

“The man has done well by leading the team to an impressive outing at the FIFA World Cup,” NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, said on Tuesday.

“The reports flying around are false, they are mere rumors. What was decided at the meeting was that the Technical Committee should, as a matter of urgency, contact Waldrum to begin the process of his contract renewal after he led the Falcons to a round of 16 places with his team posting outstanding performances against the favorites at the World Cup.

“Next year’s Olympic qualifiers begin in October and the federation doesn’t want to take chances, that’s why they want the coach’s contract renewed on time so that he can begin work immediately. Don’t forget the Falcons have a packed calendar for next year, they also have to play the WAFCON qualifiers,” the source said.

It will be recalled that as a result of their outstanding performance at the Women’s World Cup final, the Nigerian Super Falcons climbed to the top 10 in FIFA’s most recent Women’s World Cup rankings.

Surprisingly, Nigeria ranked higher than Germany, Brazil, Portugal, and Italy on the list, while also being the only African football team in the top 10.
