Pres. Bola Tinubu has started consultation with other Heads of State in the African Union (AU) towards putting a halt to what he called “coup pandemic’ currently rocking the African continent and the latest, Gabon, in the Central Africa.
Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Media and Publicity, disclosed this on Wednesday at a news conference at the State House, Abuja.
He said: “The President affirmed that the rule of law and a faithful recourse to the constitutional resolutions and instruments of electoral dispute resolution must not at any time be allowed to perish from our great continent”.
Persecondnews recalls that Moussa Faki Mahamat, African Union Commission Chairperson, had condemned the ongoing political instability in Gabon and also called on Gabon’s Army to ensure the safety of President Ali Bongo and his family.
Prior to the ousting of Ali Bongo on Wednesday, Africa has experienced seven coups since August 2020.
