National outrage as footage emerge of Vilda groping his female staff

1.2k

Spain displayed high level of tactical discipline to manuever teams to win the World cup, but the controversial attitude of the Spanish FA Luis Rubiales, and Women’s coach, Jorge Vilda, has overshadowed the brilliant display of La Roja.

The Spanish coach has come under intense criticism after footages emerge of Vilda touching a female staff member inappropriately during the final game of the Women’s World Cup.

Video footage taken seconds after Olga Carmona’s 29th-minute world cup winning goal against the Lionesses footage shows the Spanish staff celebrating and Vilda’s left hand seeming to fondle a female staff member’s breast.

Vilda led Spain to victory less than a year after 15 players said they were renouncing the team unless major changes were made by its coach to improve the team’s performance and its results.

No accusations of improper conduct have been known to be made against Vilda. Three players returned to the team for the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Persecondnews reports that the Spanish FA, Rubiales, would be facing legal charges for his uncultured gesture towards Jenni Hermoso.

The World cup winner, in a statement on Wednesday, said player union FUTPRO and her agency would partner in defending her interest.

She said: “My FUTPRO union, in coordination with my TMJ agency, are taking charge of defending my interests and being the interlocutors on this matter.”

It is alleged he created a controlling environment, forced players to keep the doors of their rooms open until midnight to check for himself that they were there before going to sleep.

Vilda was allegedly in charge of closing the door and making sure the lights were turned off.

These practices were abandoned after the 2019 World Cup following complaints from players but there are still heavy restrictions on their freedoms while in camp.
