With resounding victory, Obi ends Tinubu’s dominance in Lagos

Lagos State, the political base and traditional stronghold of All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has fallen irretrievably to his Labour Party rival, Mr Peter Obi, in a major electoral upset in Saturday’s parliamentary and presidential polls.

In a landmark victory, Obi defeated Tinubu to emerge winner of the Lagos poll, thereby ending Lagos warlord’s decades of dominance.

Going by the results announced by the Lagos State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Obi polled 582,664 votes in nine local government areas of the state while Tinubu, who scored 541,850 was able to grab 11 local government areas.

Persecondnews reports that with the majority of the votes cast in the state in Obi’s bag, the former Lagos State Governor, Tinubu, has been successfully challenged by youth-dominated Labour Party and the People’s Democratic Party.

Saturday’s election outcome might signpost electoral surprises in the March 11 Governorship and State Assembly polls.
