One of the political disciples of Rivers Gov. Nyesom Wike known as G-5 governors, Enugu State Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate in Saturday’s crashed in Saturday’s election.

Ugwuanyi suffered a humbling and embarrassing defeat in the hands of Chief Okechukwu Ezea of Labour Party (LP), who emerged winner of Enugu North Senatorial District.

Persecondnews recalls that the G-5 Governors are Wike, Seyi Makinde (Oyo State), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu State), Samuel Ortom (Benue State) and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.

They are opposed to the presidential candidate of their party, Atiku Abubakar on the grounds that he failed to prevail on the National Chairman of PDP, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, to step down and yield the office to the South.

INEC’s Returning officer, Prof. Chukuemeka Ubaka, announced the results early Monday morning at Nsukka office of the commission.

Ubaka said Ezea scored a total of 104,492 votes to beat his closest rival, Gov. Ugwuanyi to a distant second position, who scored just 46,948.

He said that the APC candidate, Mr. Simon Eze came third with 6,816 votes.

Persecondnews had reported that about three days to the election, Labour Party’s Senatorial candidate for Enugu East, Barrister Oyibo Chukwu was shot dead.

Chukwu, who was touted as a formidable and unbeatable candidate, was burnt in the vehicle after he was murdered.

His opponents are ex-Gov. Chimaroke Nnamani (PDP) and of Ada Ogbu (APC).
