The 2023 8th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon has again been won by a non-Nigerian, Elkanah Kibet, a Kenyan-American, who finished in 2hrs 14mins 00secs.
Kibet overtook record holder and former race leader, David Bamasai, at the 26km mark to clinch the 2023 Lagos City Marathon coveted prize.
Kibet won the $50,000 prize tag for the Marathon which took off from National Stadium, Surulere, and terminated at the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria lsland.
The Kenyan-born American long distance runner is an alumnus of Auburn University and also a financial management technician in the United States Army.
He competes in marathons as a member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Programme.
The first Nigerian to reach the finish line in the 2023 Lagos City Marathon made it in an impressive time of 2hrs 14mins 6secs.
This is only 6 seconds shy of the winner who finished in 2hrs 14mins 00secs.
