Makinde’s rift with PDP appears settled as Presidential team canvasses for his re-election at Ibadan rally

Indications emerged on Thursday that Oyo State Gov. Seyi Makinde may have quietly settled his differences with the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council canvassed for votes for Makinde’s reelection in the March 11 poll in Ibadan.

A mammoth mass of party faithful and people had gathered at Mapo Hall on the famous Mapo hill, Ibadan, venue of the PDP presidential campaign on Thursday.

Although was absent at the rally, major PDP stakeholders in the state attended the rally.

The atmosphere at the Ibadan rally was also indicative of the fact that Atiku and Makinde may have settled their rift behind the scene with key supporters of the party’s presidential candidate asking party members and supporters in the state to vote for Makinde for a second term in office.

Among the speakers at the rally are Sokoto Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Senator Dino Melaye, the Director-General of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council and the wife of the presidential candidate, Titi Atiku Abubakar.

Speaker after speaker told the gathering that the political differences between Atiku and Makinde have been resolved.

Persecondnews recalls that Makinde is one of the aggrieved five governors of the PDP known as G-5 or Integrity Group, who are at loggerheads with the party’s national leadership over the continued retention of Dr Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the party since the emergence of Atiku as the presidential candidate.

They had demanded Ayu’s removal for a Southerner to take over the affairs of the PDP, a pre-condition for supporting Atiku’s presidential bid.
