Polish Ambassador Visits APC Chairman, Seeks Improved Democratic Process in Nigeria

593

A week after the special convention of All Progressives Congress (APC) where Asiwaju Bola Tinubu emerged the presidential flag-bearer of the party, the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Joanna Tarnawska, has visited the national headquarters of the party.

Tarnawska, who met with the National Chairman of the APC, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, called for improved democratic process in Nigeria before, during and after the 2023 general elections.

The Ambassador, who shunned comments on the outcome of the just concluded primary election of the party, said her country was interested in political developments in Nigeria and is desirous of seeing a peaceful transition to another president after the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari next year.

She also called on the APC to create opportunities for women and young persons to participate in the political process.

Tarnawska, however, expressed concern over the worsening insecurity in the country, adding  that “Poland understood and sympathized with the challenges Nigeria is facing especially in the area of insecurity.”

She stated that her country had faced similar challenges in the past, assuring that her visit will be another layer of constructive relationship between Poland and Nigeria.

In his response, Sen. Adamu said the APC was sure to win the 2023 general elections which he said will be held in a fair and just manner.

“With the massive support the party enjoyed from over 43 million Nigerians, there is no way the party will lose the 2023 elections.”

He said the party was prepared to conduct itself in the next year’s elections according to international best practices.

The Chairman urged Poland and the international community to show more understanding about Nigeria’s challenges and electoral history, saying “Nigeria is a developing democratic nation and lessons are being learnt in electoral processes.”
