2023: APC sets new date for screening of presidential candidates

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced a new date for the screening of the party’s presidential candidates ahead of the 2023 election.

The National Organising Secretary of the party, Suleiman Argungu, who made the announcement in a statement on Monday, disclosed that the party will screen its 28 presidential aspirants who purchased forms, on Tuesday, May 24, and Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

Persecondnews had earlier reported that the APC for the second time postponed the screening exercise for its presidential aspirants scheduled to commence today, Monday, May 23rd, 2022,

“The Screening exercise for Presidential aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier scheduled to be held on Monday, May 23rd, 2022, is hereby postponed. A new date for the exercise will be announced shortly.

“Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted”, the party had said in a statement.

Persecondnews reports that among the 28 presidential aspirants to be screened by the APC Presidential Screening Committe include Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, immediate past Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, immediate past  Minister of Niger Delta Development, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, as well as the immediate past Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.

Others are Former governor of Imo state, Sen. Rochas Okorocha; former Ogun governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun; Pastor Tunde Bakare; Cross River governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, and his Ebonyi counterpart, Gov. Dave Umahi.

Also in the race is the the Chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and former Ekiti Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi; former President of the Senate, Sen. Ken Nnamani; Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi state and Jigawa Governor, Mohammed Abubakar.

Also, President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan; former Zamfara Governor, Sen. Ahmed Yerima; the only APC female aspirant, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohnenye; Pastor Nicholas Nwagbo and a former Speaker of they House of Representatives, Mr Dimeji Bankole are jostling for the presidency.
