President Muhammadu Buhari has given a marching order to ministers and other appointees running for elective offices to resign their appointments with immediate effect.

They are to submit their letters of resignation on or before Monday the 16th of May, 2022.

Persecondnews reports that among the ministers running for president are Rotimi Amaechi (Transportation), Chris Ngige ( Labour and Employment), and Mr Abubakar Malami (Justice and Attorney General of the Federation).

Others are Godswill Akpabio (Niger Delta), Ogbonnaya Onu (Science, Technology and Innovation), Emeka Nwajiuba (Minister of State for Education).

Also affected are the Minister of State Mines and Steel, Uche Ogar, who is running for the governorship position in Abia State, and the Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, who declared her ambition to contest for the senatorial seat in Plateau State.

They have all joined the presidential race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Buhari gave the directive at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who announced this during the meeting, said it excludes the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) because he is an elected member of the cabinet.

He said any amendment or additions to the directive  would be announced shortly.
