The Qatar 2022 play off between Nigeria and Ghana at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday ended on a tragic note as Joseph Kabungo, FIFA/ CAF Doping Control Officer in charge of the match reportedly died.

He reportedly suffered cardiac arrest following the stampede at the Stadium after the ill-fated 1-1 draw between the Super Eagles and Black Stars at the match venue.

The Zambian was his country’s national team doctor when the Chipolopolo won the African Cup of Nations in 2020.

Kaboungo has been on the CAF medical team since 2013.

Persecondnews reports that angry and disappointed fans had broken into the pitch at the end of the match, destroying some facilities.
