Following bandits’ attack on two communities of Niger State, about 20 people have been reported drowned while fleeing on Wednesday morning.

The victims, mostly women and children, drowned in the Guni-Zumba River of Munya Local Government Area of the state after the boat conveying them capsized while crossing the river, Persecondnews gathered.

According to reports, the boat was carrying more passengers beyond its capacity.

The bandits had attacked Guni and Kurgbaku communities of the same local government, forcing residents to flee for safety.

Persecondnews reports that Niger like Kaduna State, has been the hotbed of banditry lately.

Earlier in March, heavily armed bandits had invaded about eight communities in Munya Local Government area of Niger State on motorcycles, killing scores and injuring many villagers.
