A former Governor of Imo and Senator representing Imo west, Rochas Okorocha, has officially declared interest as a presidential aspirant to contest the 2023 presidential election.
Okorocha said he is not too young or old to contest, adding that he is in politics for what he can give rather that what he can get.
Okorocha, who has been a two-time presidential aspirant, declared interest on Monday while addressing a news conference in Abuja.
According to him, he is seeking to establish a “New Nigeria” and that Nigeria needs a leader that can unite the country and give everyone a sense of belonging.
The nation, he said, is in dire need of someone that can create wealth, as the country is facing a number of challenges that need to be addressed.
“I am not in politics for what I can get, I am in politics for what I can give. I prize honour more than life and glory more than wealth.
“I’m not not too young to run or too old to run, I’m only 59 years old. A ‘New Nigeria’ is about to come.
“My joy is to see a Nigeria where there will be no poverty and killings because where poverty persists, ethnicity thrives. Our biggest problem is hunger. Nigeria needs a compassionate leader that can listen to the cry of the people.
“I want a Nigeria that can turn nothing to something. The nation is in dire need of someone who can create wealth. I will create wealth.
“A ‘New Nigeria’ shall build a long golden bridge that will bring Nigerians in diaspora back to the country, because there will be enormous opportunities for them.
“Education is no longer a right to life, but life itself. Anyone that denies a child education has killed the future of that child.
“In ‘New Nigeria’ education will be free from primary to secondary level. If I can do it in Rochas foundation, I can do it in the ‘New Nigeria,’ Okorocha also said.
On zoning, the presidential aspirant said he is not a candidate of zoning, but a “candidate of justice”.
“Igbos must understand that power is not given, but taken.”
