Sequel to the Federal Government’s decision to halt petrol subsidy removal, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday announced the suspension of its planned nationwide protests over the vexed issue.
Making the announcement on Tuesday, the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, said the strike, initially scheduled to hold on January 27 and February 2, 2022 was suspended due to the federal government’s decision to halt the subsidy removal.
The government had on Monday announced the suspension of the planned petrol subsidy removal indefinitely, citing reasons of high inflation and economic hardships in the country, Persecondnews.com had reported.
Wabba said: “Following the reversal and reapproach by government, the National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress met this morning virtually to consider the new position of the government.
”The NEC after vigorous debates took a decision to suspend the planned nationwide protest scheduled for 27th January, 2022, and the national protests scheduled for 2nd February, 2022.”
