Anambra Nov. 6 gov. poll: Supreme Court clears last hurdle for APGA’s Prof. Soludo

“The court’s five-member panel led by Justice Mary Odili also affirmed Mr Victor Oye as the National Chairman of the party”

The last political hurdle in the quest by Prof. Charles Soludo to have a shot at governorship of Anambra State was surmounted on Thursday as the Supreme Court affirmed his candidature for the November 6, 2021 polls.

The apex court confirmed Soludo as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) flag bearer in the election, reports Persecondnews.

The court’s five-member panel led by Justice Mary Odili also affirmed Mr Victor Oye as the National Chairman of the party.

In a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court upheld the judgment of the Kano State Division of the Court of Appeal which validated the APGA primaries that produced Soludo as its candidate.

Soludo, CFR, is a Nigerian economics professor and a former governor and chairman of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

He is also a member of the British Department for International Development’s International Advisory Group, according to Wikipedia.

Persecondnews recalls that in June 2021 Soludo had won the governorship primary of APGA.

A “faction” of the party headed by Mr Jude Okeke, had announced the disqualification of Soludo and the suspension of the National Chairman of the party, Victor Oye.

But Oye urged the public to disregard the alleged Soludo’s disqualification.

“APGA has no factions. We are one, united party. Ask those parading themselves as acting chairman which convention produced them?

“I am the only constitutionally, legally and legitimately elected National Chairman of APGA. It is not in contention,” he said.

At his emergence, the 60-year-old Soludo said he was humbled by his choice as APGA governorship candidate.

“This moment is God’s time, and God’s time is the time.”

Soludo was, however, attacked in April by gunmen at Isuofia, his hometown, during a political gathering, leaving three policemen dead.
