In league with the lower chamber of the National Assembly, the Senate has also ventilated its dismay and resentment with the parlous security situation in the country and for the umpteenth time, called on President Muhammadu Buhari  to relieve the service chiefs of their jobs.

The senators said the military officers should be sacked for their failure to secure Nigerians.

Persecondnews recalls that the Senate had passed the motion calling on Buhari to give them the boot for the third time this year.

Senator Kashim Shettima had on Tuesday moved the motion following weekend massacre of more than 43 rice farmers in Borno State by Boko Haram jihadists.

The upper chamber also asked Buhari to restructure the nation’s security architecture and demanded a probe into the allegations of corruption and fraud levelled against some top hierarchy of the military.

The Senate want the president to negotiate with the neighbouring countries for multinational cooperation to strengthen the war against insurgency.

On the families of the victims of the massacre, the Senate directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, NEMA and NEDC to provide succour and psychological support for them without delay.

“There should be good welfare for soldiers at the war front and proper resettlement and support for the families of the fallen soldiers.

“We urge federal and state governments to address issues fueling insecurity,” the senators said, calling for massive recruitment into the military and the police.
