Edo poll post-mortem: Govs. Ganduje, Buni in Aso Rock for “private meeting” with Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday held a “private meeting” in Aso Rock with the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Caretaker Committee, Gov. Mai Mala Buni and Kano Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, who chaired the party’s Edo gubernatorial election campaign council.

It was not clear what formed the agenda of the meeting but it is believed it may not be unconnected with Saturday’s Edo governorship poll lost by the party.

Gov. Godwin Obaseki of the People’s Democratic Party had won by a wide margin of about 84,000 votes to nail the ambition of Osagie Ize-lyamu of APC.

The governors had evaded State House correspondents as they entered and exited the Villa through different routes.

Persecondnews had reported that both Ganduje and his Imo state counterpart, Hope Uzodinma, spent the weekend in Benin City to oversee the election.

Last month, Ganduje had described Obaseki, who defected from APC to PDP as a “colossal failure and liability  to the people of Edo state”, who did not deserve a second term.

He spoke at the Villa when the Progressive Governors’ Forum of APC  officially presented Ize-Iyamu to Buhari.

He had urged the people to come out a mass to vote for Ize-Iyamu of the APC because the Obaseki-led administration had performed “woefully” in all ramifications.

Ganduje also dismissed the incumbency factor in swinging votes in favour of the sitting governor.
