PDP to Embattled Lagos Speaker: Show your law degree certificate to authenticate claim as lawyer

312

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, has been asked to show proof of his qualification as a lawyer or resign.

A People’s Democratic Party (PDP) 2019 governorship poll candidate, Mr Babatunde Gbadamosi, said if he failed to clear himself by producing some relevant certificates, he qualified as a fraud, forger and impersonator.

In a letter addressed to Obasa entitled, “Allegations of Impersonation”, Gbadamosi said the speaker’s claim that he graduated from the Faculty of Law at the Lagos State University (LASU) and the Nigeria Law School had been proven to be false.

Persecondnews recalls that an online media had recently published that Obasa did not qualify as a lawyer contrary to his claim as his record could not be found at the nation’s Supreme Court.

“The allegations, if true, would suggest that the person of the Speaker and the exalted office which he occupies is in fact a liar, a fraud, a forger and an impersonator.

“Obasa’s failure to prove his status and deflate the allegations will not only render his position illegal, but also all the laws he has passed in his previous and current term in office.

“These grave implications for my state, where I pay my taxes religiously, and even the idea that my taxes that I toil daily to pay may have been used to fund a criminal give me no choice but to ask you to come clean on this question with absolute finality, or resign from that seat with immediate effect, as doing otherwise amounts to deliberately dragging the office of the speaker and indeed the entire legal profession into serious disrepute.

“Let us agree that these people are your classmates. Are you saying you graduated from the Nigerian Law School and were called to the bar? Gbadamosi said.

He asked: “ARE YOU A LAWYER SIR? Of course you know I dropped out of the law program at LASU, but would never dare pretend to be a lawyer.

“I urge you to answer this question definitively with the urgency it demands, or resign with immediate effect.”
