Graft, misconduct : Malami unsettles Magu, demands his removal in a memo to Buhari

1.2k

It is an unsettling experience for Mr Ibrahim Magu, the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as the Justice Minister, Malam Abubakar Malami (SAN), has recommended his sack to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Malami is asking Buhari to relieve the anti-corruption star of his job on grounds of graft, insubordination and misconduct.

As a replacement, a list of three candidates was also forwarded to Buhari for consideration.

He listed 22 weighty allegations against Magu in a memo to the President which include diversion of recovered loot from politicians and other public officers.

Malami alleged accounting gaps or discrepancies of figures concerning the recovered assets, claiming that Magu was not transparent enough in the management of recovered assets.

The minister also accused Magu of disclosing a total naira recovery of N504 billion but lodged N543 billion in the Recovery Account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

PerSecondNewsrecalls that Magu has been acting chairman since November 2015 after he failed twice to scale Senate screening and confirmation during the 8th Assembly under the helmsmanship of Dr Bukola Saraki.
