…says to defeat the “landmine” requires some skills
…another lockdown ‘ll be counter-productive
Worried by the lockdown of some part of the country amid COVID-19, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN), says lockdown will not defeat the virus.
He said Nigerians must learn to live with the virus and can only defeat it by practicing the skills of avoiding it like a “landmine”.
“We cannot perfect those skills by locking ourselves up,” Keyamo tweeted on Sunday.

According to the Minister, reintroducing another total lockdown in parts of the country will be counterproductive.

Persecondnews recalls that as at May 9 night, COVID-19 cases in Nigeria have spiked to 4,000 mark.

Lagos, the epic centre of the pandemic and still leading with Kano, Ogun States as well as Abuja having their shares.
On May 4, a three-phased easing of the lockdown in the states and FCT was announced by President
Muhammadu Buhari in a broadcast after a five-week total lockdown to curb community transmission of the virus.
Following violations of the rules guiding the eased lockdown, Lagos State Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had threatened on Saturday to slam another lockdown on the state.
He said if there was no improvement in the citizens’ compliance level, he might be forced to take the “very painful decision of bringing the entire system under a lockdown again.”
Reacting Keyamo, said: “Another total lockdown is unnecessary as Nigerians must learn to live with the virus and practice the guidelines including observing social distancing, avoiding crowded places, use of face masks in public, regular hygiene, amongst others.
“My personal view is that another total lockdown would be counterproductive. Before defeating the virus, we must learn to live with it all around us and practice the skills of avoiding it like a landmine.”
Stressing that the COVID-19 fight required some skills, the Minister also said: “Practice makes perfect. We cannot perfect those skills by locking ourselves up.”
