Five months after, Court declares ex-Kogi Deputy Gov. Simon Achuba’s removal nullity

The impeachment of a former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Mr Simon Achuba, in October 2019 is an exercise in futility and therefore a nullity, a court ruled on Thursday.
“It is hereby declared null and void as it  did not follow due process,” a State High Court in Lokoja said.
PerSecondnews recalls that Achuba was in October 2019 impeached by the State House of Assembly within days prior to the governorship poll which gave his estranged boss, Gov. Yahaya Bello a second term.
Following his hurried removal, Yahaya picked Mr Edward Onoja as his running mate.

Achuba had challenged his forceful removal and eviction from office and Government House.
In his judgment, Justice John Olorunfemi  faulted Achuba’s removal, describing it as a violation of the 1999 Constitution.
