The security situation in Lagos State is taking a turn for the worse as armed bandits are now prowling the roads attacking hapless and vulnerable citizens including motorists.

Armed traffic robbers are now having a field day as motorists are being attacked particularly at night.

Flashpoints and blacks spots in the metropolis which the robbers have seized include Orile-Iganmu, Mile Two, Trade Fair Complex on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Robbery Attack

At one of the black spots, a motorist, Mr Chukwudi Okwunze, a 51-year-old, who was driving home on Monday evening (Feb. 24) was shot in the traffic at Mile Two at about 9.00p.m.

But for Divine Providence, Okwunze would have been felled by the robbers’ bullets.

Victim of the attack

Okwunze, however, escaped death by hair’s breadth as the robbers’ bullet hit him on the left arm.

A visibly frightened Okwunze had managed to pilot the car amid pains to a safe distance, parked before he could get help from a Good Samaritan who rushed him to a hospital.

“He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital,’’ a source said.

Persecondnews reports that the window of the car was shattered by the bullet while the spills of the victim’s sprayed the seats.

Efforts to get the comment of the Police Commissioner, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, who had read riot act to bandits in the state on assumption of office in 2019, were unsuccessful.

The spokesman for the command, DSP Bala Elkana, could not be reached at the time of filling this report as his lines were busy.
