Mr Goddy Nnadi, the General Manager (Corporate Services), Petroleum Equalisation Fund (PEF) has been nabbed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for multi-billion corruption cases.
Among others, he is being investigated for building and managing a hotel in Owerri, Imo capital in violation of the  civil service rules.
Some documents discovered in the course of investigation showed that the hotel was established in 2015 and its bank account linked to Nnadi’s Bank Verification Number (BVN).
Confirming the arrest, the spokeswoman of ICPC , Mrs Rasheedat Okoduwa, said Nnadi has been arrested since Monday.
The arrest followed Nnadi’s refusal to honour several invitations sent to him by the ICPC over allegations of running private business against the civil service rules and regulations.
The rules which guide the conduct of public officers in the country states that while these officers are not prohibited from holding shares in both public and private companies, “they must not be directors in private companies”.
Consequently, Nnadi was arrested by the Special Presidential Investigation Panel (SPIP) for the Recovery of Public Property on allegations of corrupt enrichment, living beyond his legitimate earnings and abuse of office.
In December 2019, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had earlier taken Nnadi to court which granted its application for a final forfeiture of six properties owned by him.
PerSecondnews recalls that EFCC had filed charges bordering on conspiracy, bribery and money laundering against Nnadi at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
