Notwithstanding the Federal Government’s relentless war against graft, a daring Managing Director of one of the federal agencies in Abuja has acquired a N140 million bullet proof Toyota SUV official car.
The purchase of such an expensive exotic vehicle is said to have incensed the Presidency which considers it an extravagance in today’s economic realities.
To this end, an investigation has been being conducted into how approval was secured for the purchase of the SUV in spite of the serious scrutiny of financial requests and bottlenecks placed in the way of heads of ministries and agencies of government.
“Heads may roll over the matter as to who gave approval for it,’’ a source said while searchlight may be beamed on the activities of the managing directors who circumvent or compromise their boards or taking advantage of absence of boards.
It was not clear if the request for the purchase of the bullet-proof SUV passed through the Due Process Office or complied with the Procurement Act of the Federal Government.
As usual, the man in the centre of the scandal is making moves to get those close to President Muhammadu Buhari to sweep the matter under the carpet.
Persecondnews recalls that the then Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, in the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan was embroiled in a similar controversy as she bought some bullet-proof BMW cars worth hundreds of millions of naira.
The vehicles were, however, seized from her.
