Nigeria has secured the rights to stage the 2028 International Table Tennis Federation African Championships after polling 23 votes to Tunisia’s 15 at the ITTF Africa Annual General Meeting in Tangier, Morocco, on Thursday.

Adesoji Tayo, President of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, confirmed the competition will be held in Lagos and vowed a seamless, world-class tournament for Africa’s leading players.

“We want to thank all the delegates for placing their trust in Nigeria to host both the 2028 African Championships and the 2027 African Para Championships,” Tayo said, celebrating the dual hosting success.

“As experienced organisers of major international table tennis events, we are committed to delivering a seamless and successful tournament as Lagos will once again welcome the continent’s finest players and we assure all visitors that Nigeria will be the place to be in 2028,” he added.

Nigeria last staged the championship in 1992 when Funke Oshonaike and Segun Toriola won individual and doubles titles.
