The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has lamented the departure of some of its candidates to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of using money and political appointments to woo them.
Among the latest developments is the resignation of the NDC’s Bauchi State governorship candidate, Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, who quit the party with effect from October 16, 2026.
The party alleged that the APC was using financial inducements and other material benefits to attract its candidates, according to a statement emailed to PerSecondNews on Tuesday, by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director,
“The NDC is fully aware of the desperate and malicious tactics of the APC, which has resorted to offering money, political appointments, and other material incentives,” the statement said.
The party described those leaving its ranks as lacking ideological commitment and accused them of abandoning its values for personal financial gain.
“For those who have fallen for this bait, it is clear that they lack the values, virtues, and ideological commitment associated with our great party,” the it added.
The NDC said it would conduct fresh congresses to elect replacement candidates in affected constituencies, citing the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
It urged party members and supporters not to be discouraged by the departures, maintaining that the defections would not derail its political objectives.
“These are the last kicks of a dying horse that has seen the handwriting on the wall of its imminent defeat,” the statement said.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to good governance, security and prosperity, while accusing the APC of attempting to weaken opposition parties through inducements.
