The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has dismissed claims by two electricity distribution companies that transmission bottlenecks are causing power outages in Abuja and Jos.
TCN maintained that its 330kV transmission lines supplying both cities remain fully operational.
TCN strongly refuted the claims made by AEDC and Kaduna Electric in separate statements on August 26 and 27.
The transmission company called the allegations inaccurate and accused Kaduna Electric of deliberately misleading the public.
TCN’s clarification came amid reports of reduced power allocation to AEDC customers in Abuja and alleged transmission constraints affecting electricity supply to Jos and its environs.
TCN said AEDC was wrong to attribute the sharp reduction in its electricity allocation to the alleged tripping of 330kV transmission lines supplying Abuja from the Shiroro Transmission Substation.
PerSecondNews recalls that AEDC had informed customers that its allocation had fallen from approximately 641 megawatts (MW) to 314MW, attributing the reduction partly to the alleged tripping of transmission lines.
But TCN said the claim was “inaccurate and misleading,” explaining that the reduction resulted from low generation on the national grid and not from any transmission line fault.
The transmission company said all 330kV transmission lines within the Abuja Region were in circuit and that there had been no tripping of the lines supplying the Abuja axis as alleged by AEDC.
TCN consequently said the load shedding being experienced across AEDC feeders could not be blamed on a transmission line failure in the Abuja Region.
The transmission company also took exception to a statement by Kaduna Electric alleging transmission constraints affecting electricity supply to Jos and neighbouring areas.
TCN categorically rejected the claim, describing it as “false and a deliberate misrepresentation of facts.”
According to the company, all 330kV transmission lines connected to Jos are currently in service and transmitting bulk electricity.
TCN, however, acknowledged a single operational incident involving the Jos–Lafia 330kV Line 2 on August 23, 2026.
It said the circuit breaker on the line was opened at about 3:30 a.m. for voltage control, describing the action as a routine operational measure taken to maintain grid stability.
The line was subsequently restored and returned to service at 11:59 a.m. on August 24, TCN said.
The company stressed that since the restoration, there had been no outage or disruption of bulk electricity transmission on any 330kV line supplying Jos attributable to TCN.
According to a statement given to PerSecondNews in Abuja, the back-to- back clarifications have seen TCN urge electricity distribution companies and other stakeholders to verify operational information with the transmission company before attributing supply constraints to faults on its network.
TCN said inaccurate claims could misinform electricity consumers and create unnecessary anxiety.
The company maintained that its responsibility is to transmit available bulk electricity efficiently to distribution companies across the country while preserving the stability, reliability and integrity of the national transmission grid.
It also appealed to electricity consumers in Abuja, Jos and surrounding areas to disregard what it described as misleading information concerning the status of its 330kV transmission infrastructure.
TCN said it would continue to work with the distribution companies to ensure stable and reliable power delivery nationwide.
