Nigeria’s football governing body has been rocked by crisis following reports that NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and seven board members have resigned.
The sudden departure comes amid mounting public outrage over systemic decay in the nation’s football administration and the widespread failure of the national teams.
“Eight of the 13 board members have quit their positions,” an official confirmed to Persecondnews
The internal rift has thrown the upcoming September 27 elective congress in Lafia, Nasarawa State, into uncertainty, according to PerSecondNews.
Meanwhile, security operatives have taken over the federation’s headquarters following allegations of a massive financial scandal.
“The DSS has beamed its searchlight on officials to show concrete proof of how the money was used; after the Nations Cup each board member went home with Ghana must go while the main actors are being owed,” an insider revealed.
DSS is probing the handling of a N17 billion presidential intervention fund approved in 2024 to clear outstanding national team wages.
According to an operative, investigators are examining how the funds were disbursed, though official sources maintain the scrutiny is a routine administrative audit.
“It is a normal thing for the DSS to go through all documents relating to the funds,” the source noted.
The board faced immense heat after the Super Falcons failed to reach the global showpiece. “Failing to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time broke everyone,” a fan lamented.
