Music executive Damilola Akinwunmi, popularly known as Dapper, has responded to explosive allegations by Nigerian singer Shallipopi, who accused him of withholding more than $1 million in royalties and forging his signature on music distribution agreements.
Shallipopi had accused Dapper of owing him money from royalties generated by 46 songs, including his hit track, ‘E Don Cast’, while also alleging that the music executive forged his signature on a 10-year distribution agreement and used it to enter into a deal with international music company, Virgin Music Group.
The singer also alleged that Dapper collected money from Virgin Music Group and failed to remit the proceeds to him, claiming that he was instead told to keep working because his money was in the future.
Responding to the allegations in a statement posted on his X account on Saturday night obtained by PerSecondNews, Dapper did not directly address the specific financial figures or the alleged forgery but insisted that existing records and official processes would establish the truth.
“I will not demean myself by disrespecting the one thing I stand on, which is my love for music. So I won’t stoop so low as to engage in insults,” Dapper said.
He added: “So much to say, but so few ways to say it. I have nothing to hide. The records exist. The authorities have them. Let the process establish the truth.”
The music executive also accused Shallipopi of allegedly spreading false information online in an attempt to influence public opinion over their dispute.
“Don’t come online and spill rubbish narratives, & lies, only to mislead the public!” he said.
Dapper further appeared to reject the suggestion that Shallipopi was forced out of their business relationship, insisting that the singer made the decision to leave.
“You chose to leave! No one forced you, and we are still fine without you! Move on! Stop acting obsessed!!!!” he wrote.
