Twenty-three foreign nationals have been arrested in Ogun State over their alleged involvement in a Ponzi scheme, visa fraud, and various immigration offences.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives from the Atan-Ota Police Division raided a gated residence in an estate off Iyana-Iyesi, Onipanu, in Ota around 11:00 a.m. last Tuesday.
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed in a statement given to Persecondnews that officers secured the premises and detained all 23 suspects, who remain in custody pending further investigation.
“One Malian international passport bearing the name Diakite Alfousseini was also recovered during the operation,” the police disclosed.
“The suspects were arrested in connection with an alleged Ponzi scheme/visa scam and other immigration-related offences,” it said, adding that preliminary investigation was conducted after their arrest.
“21 of the suspects were formally handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service on August 5 for further investigation and appropriate action.”
The command stated that two suspects are currently held for prosecution on counts of obtaining money by false pretenses along with associated offenses.
Investigative efforts remain active to examine the circumstances surrounding the fraudulent enterprise and apprehend any remaining associates.
